Go through the five steps of reading poetry--individually or with one other person (Slide #27 on Yesterday's PPT) - Read "My Papa's Waltz" multiple times--once to yourself, multiple times out loud (See Poem Below) - Annotate the poem (this takes more than one time reading) - Please remember the example annotation; I want to see your paper filled with writing (you can annotate rhythm, word choice, meaning, point of view, tone, voice, style, rhyming, line breaks, any bolded or italicized formatting, questions about it, observations, thoughts while reading, purpose, etc...basically ANY decision of the author can be annotated) - A good annotation of this poem will take at least 20 minutes. - Discuss the poem with another pair or person (talk about author's purpose, what it means, how they connected to it, etc.) - -8 minutes; use your annotations to guide their discussion - Somewhere on the poem, write down the theme of the poem and how it connects in any way to your lives - I will be checking it in for a grade 2.
