- Take out a few sheets of loose-leaf paper (not from their notebooks)--If you don’t have loose-leaf paper, grab some from the back counter
- This is ALL you are allowed to have out (3 pieces of writing and blank paper)
- If you were absent yesterday, get the short story “The Necklace” from the handout table at the front of the room and complete the graphic organizer (located in the blue mailbox under “Tuesday” on the back counter) before the exam next week
- Bring both the short story and graphic organizer with you on the day of their exam
- If you were absent, have someone from the class catch you up on the midterm prep from yesterday

- Answer the questions one by one on a separate sheet of paper. Answer EACH question and be thorough in your responses

Note: You do NOT need to turn in your three pieces of writing with their reflection…keep those in your English folder

Task: Midterm Exam Prep Work
Handouts: “The Necklace” Short Story and Midterm Prep Notes (See Yesterday's Date)
1. Beginning-of-Class Announcements
- Pick up the handouts (listed above) from the handout table in the front of the room if you have not done so already
- The first handout is basically the notes I had you take yesterday on how to prepare for the midterm…the second handout is the short story I told you about yesterday that they will be writing about for the midterm
- If you were absent yesterday, the graphic organizer is in the blue mailbox in the back of the room under “Tuesday” (everyone needs to have a copy of that to prepare for the exam)
- If you were absent, have someone from the class catch you up on the midterm prep from yesterday
2.Exam Prep Time
- You will have the duration of the hour to 1) READ and ANNOTATE the short story, “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant and 2) FILL OUT the graphic organizer
- The annotations are simply writing down what the theme of the story is and highlighting/underlining/notes on any part of the story that aligns with that theme, which you can use as evidence in their essays...do this silently and independently
- If you have questions, please email me or send me a message on Schoology
*Tomorrow is the reflection portion of their final exam, and you need to have copies of 1) your summer reading hand-written essay, 2) your typed 5-paragraph theme essay on their summer reading book, and 3) your hero’s journey story
*Re-print your hero’s journey story since I still have the originals (you should print it in the media center during lunch so you don’t have to waste your own ink or paper)
*The graphic organizer needs to be done before exam day next week and that you need to bring BOTH the GRAPHIC ORGANIZER and the ANNOTATED STORY to class with on the day of your exam next week
